Tubac Golf Resort sits about 45 minutes south of Tucson, alongside the historic Tubac arts village, on land that traces back to a Spanish land grant from the 1700s. It gives you a real destination wedding without anyone having to leave Southern Arizona.
The chapel, and the rest of the grounds
The mission style chapel on the property is a replica of the Spanish era buildings this valley grew up around, and for a lot of couples it is the reason they end up here in the first place. Beyond it there is around 8,000 square feet of indoor event space and a range of outdoor options with the mountains behind them. A ceremony in the chapel and a reception elsewhere on the grounds is a common shape here, which means two setups rather than one. I work that out in advance with the resort’s events team so the move between them feels like part of the day.
A resort setting away from the city
Bringing your guests out of Tucson and into a resort changes the whole feel of a wedding weekend. Golf course views, mountain backdrops, and a pace that lets people actually settle in. It also means planning sound for open resort grounds, where there is no ceiling helping me and the wind gets a say, so I would rather walk the space with you well ahead of the date than work it out on the morning.
Worth building the whole weekend around
The 27 hole course here is one of the better known in Southern Arizona, and it turns up in Tin Cup, the 1996 Kevin Costner film, which your golfing guests will enjoy more than they will admit. Tubac itself is a genuine arts village, galleries and shops within walking distance, and it gives out of town guests something to do on either side of the wedding. When the weekend calls for it I plan around a destination style schedule, working with your planner, your photographer and the resort so the welcome event, the ceremony and the reception each get what they need.
